Who better to relate to electrical safety than Philadelphia's own Benjamin Franklin. Did you know that not only did he discover electricity, but in 1736, he also founded the first fire department in Philadelphia? Franklin said it best, "An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure."
*Electrical Outlets

-Have a professional electrician install enough electrical outlets in every room.
-Have a professional electrician install special circuits for heavy duty appliances.
-NEVER cut off the grounding pin of a three prong plug or alter the polarized wide prong plug to fit an outlet. This connection protects you from severe shock caused by a faulty cord or malfunctioning appliance.
-Protect children from electrical shock by installing plastic safety inserts in unused outlets.

*Extension cords

-Overloaded extension cords and faulty electric cords are major causes of fires resulting in injuries or death.
-NEVER use extension cords on a permanent basis. They are for temporary use only.
-NEVER use a extension cord to power a space heater.
-NEVER use extension cords to power appliances that generate heat or utilize a motor.(air-conditioner./refrigerator.)
-DO NOT run extension cords under carpets or across doorways.

*Fuses and Circuit Breakers

-If a fuse blows or circuit breaker trips, don't just replace or reset it, find out what caused the overload and have us correct the problem.
-NEVER replace a fuse with one that exceeds the amperage rating for a given circuit.
-NEVER replace a fuse with a penny or any other material that conducts electricity.

-Flickering Lights: If you cannot locate the problem inside your home, call us immediately to inspect electrical connections to your home or at your electric meter.
-Warm electrical cord: If an electrical cord is warm to the touch, the cord is underrated or defective.
-Frequent bulb burnout: Light bulbs that burn out often are a sign that the wattage is too high for the fixture or a faulty connection may be present.
-Sparks: If sparks appear when you insert or remove a plug, they could be a sign of loose connections.
